The Centre for Protein Diagnostics is a research building in accordance with Article 91b, Paragraph 1, Sentence 1, of the Basic Law, which was included in the joint federal and state funding in the 2015 funding phase and began operating on the NRW Health Campus in Bochum in 2019.

Position within the Ruhr-University Bochum

The Centre for Protein Diagnostics is a scientific institution of the Ruhr-University Bochum. It is an expression of many years of successful interdisciplinary and transfaculty cooperative research in the field of protein sciences.

Fields of expertise – using synergies

In four areas of competence, university and clinical researchers jointly research new methods for the diagnosis and therapy prediction of oncological and neurological diseases. The members of the competence areas are recruited from the Ruhr-Universität Bochum and the Bochum University Hospitals and are supplemented by external expertise on a project-specific basis. By housing researchers and clinicians under one roof, great synergies are expected.

Governance – lean and powerful

The Centre for Protein Diagnostics is managed by a Board of Directors, which is responsible for the overall research planning, among other things. The board of directors is advised by a scientific advisory board of external experts. Thus, the governance structure of PRODI is oriented towards non-university institutes. The founding and managing director is Prof. Dr. Klaus Gerwert. Managing Director is Dr. Gerd Kock.
